Tarsiers. Chocolate hills. Loboc river. Panglao white beach. – These are just some of the reasons why people would like to go to Bohol. Not for Fr. Socrates Mesiona, PMS national director and Anthony Dameg, formation coordinator. Fr. Socrates and Anthony went to Bohol not as local tourists but to conduct mission animation for the students of Blessed Trinity College in the town of Talibon.
They traveled to Bohol right after the National Assembly of Mission Directors in Cebu last June 21-25 after they received an invitation from the Augustinian Recollect (AR) Sisters. The two spent almost the whole day of June 28 giving mission talks to high school students. The topics they gave were as follows:
· Why mission?
· What are the four Pontifical Mission Societies?
· How can one participate in the mission of the church?
· Membership to the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
The duo's strategy was to have room visits. The students received the two mission promoters with much interest and enthusiasm. Many students promised to join and become members of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
Fr. Socrates and Anthony also paid a visit to the Bishop of Talibon diocese, Most Reverend Christian Noel. The good bishop received them warmly and also talked about his work and pastoral concerns in the diocese.
After Talibon, the two proceeded to Guindulman where the AR Sisters have also a school and to Maribojoc to see a project in which the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood has financed.
Mission awareness promotion and animation at Blessed Trinity College was a success because of the willingness and interest also of the AR Sisters.
